Adults and children who suffer socially and psychologically from appearance-altering conditions can now benefit from new services offered at the Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc.
These individuals are usually healthy, however, their condition significantly affects their quality of life and psychological well-being.
Psychologist Sebastiana Biondo now offers a psychological and support service at the Foundation for individuals (adults & children) that suffer from conditions that include hair loss, trichotillomania, vitiligo, psoriasis, and skin cancers.
The issues that are generally addressed include anxiety, depression, self-esteem, social isolation, relationships, shame & embarrassment, and work.
Professionals working with individuals suffering from appearance-altering conditions need to be sensitive to their emotional status and can incorporate counselling in meeting their patient's care management.
