A highly-interactive one-day workshop for general practitioners, developed by specialist dermatologist educators at the Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc.
This workshop aims to upskill GPs so that they can confidently
- identify common benign and malignant skin lesions,
- use dermoscopy to assist in the diagnosis of skin lesions,
- understand the principles and practice of managing melanomas and non-melanoma skin cancers,
- understand biopsy principles and techniques, and
- explain the principles of sun protection to patients.
There will be practical sessions throughout the day:
- Non Melanoma Skin Cancer (Interactive Lecture)
- Melanoma Skin Cancer (Interactive Lecture)
- Basic dermoscopy, which will cover identifying benign lesions, non-melanoma skin cancer and melanoma (Interactive Lecture)
- Biopsy Techniques - Punch and Shave (Interactive Lecture)
- Excisional Biopsy Technique (Interactive Session)
- Practical Session (Interactive Session)
This GP Skin Cancer Workshop is suitable for all GPs and GP registrars or trainees, whatever the level of experience. Developed and taught by experienced specialist dermatologist educators, these workshops are a perfect opportunity to skill up.

There will be a number of dermatologists presenting and participating at this workshop. These are being coordinated by Associate Professor Alvin Chong, a dermatologist with extensive teaching experience.
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR ALVIN CHONG
A/Prof Alvin Chong is a Senior Lecturer in Dermatology at Melbourne University and a specialist dermatologist at the Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc, St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne and the University of Melbourne.
He is an international authority on skin cancer in immunosuppressed and solid organ transplant recipients. He has a passion for teaching and has run several successful workshops aimed at upskilling GPs and trainees in the diagnosis and management of skin diseases.
Associate Professor Chong is also the immediate past Victorian Censor of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.
This activity has been approved by the RACGP’s QI&CPD programin the 2017-19 Triennium for 40 Category One points – (Activity number: 147698)
This workshop has been accredited by the ACRRM for 30 PRPD points and 30 Surgery MOPS points. (ACRRM Event ID 15048).
It is also eligible for one day of procedural grant funding under the surgical component for eligible doctors.

The number of places available at our GP Skin Cancer Workshops are strictly limited to ensure a high degree of interactivity with our specialist dermatologists, dermatology registrars and surgeons. Tickets are sold on a "first in, best served" basis.
The registration fee includes all printed and online course materials, morning & afternoon teas as well as a light lunch.
The fees for this workshop are shown at the top of this page. Early bird discounts are available, but will expire on the date shown.
Cancellations made on or before 28 February 2019 will incur a $50 administration fee.
Cancellations made after 1 March and on or before Friday 12 April will incur a 50% cancellation fee.
There will be no refunds after that date.
