Join us on Thursday, 17 May at the Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc for a free special event to mark International Clinical Trials Day 2018.
Our esteemed panel of experts will address the current climate of clinical trials in Australia; upcoming industry changes; and the impact of these changes.
A light breakfast will be provided, along with an opportunity to network with attendees and speakers at the conclusion of the presentations.

Carlo Maccarrone M.Pharm., Ph.D., ACF

Topic: TransCelerate’s Industry Collaboration and its Impact on the Future of
Carlo trained as a pharmacist before completing a Master of Pharmacy degree in cardiovascular pharmacology (Monash University), and a PhD at in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Austin Hospital (Melbourne University). He began his career in academic research before joining the pharmaceutical industry in 1988 where he has held a variety of positions in Clinical Research, Head of Pharmaceutical Product Development (formulation & line extensions) and Academic Research Alliances. Carlo joined GSK as a CRA in 1989, and has assumed various roles of increasing responsibility including Head of Clinical Operations for Australia & New Zealand, and his current appointment as Asia Pacific Regional Director - Clinical Operations since 2015.
Carlo has been an active contributor to a number of Government & Industry Committees in Australia, has been a past Co-Chair of the Australian Pharmaceutical Industry R&D Taskforce, Fellow of ARCS Australia (Professional Association), a Director of the ARCS Board, and is currently the Australian Country Lead for TransCelerate.

Burke is a Director and senior executive in the biotechnology and
pharmaceutical sectors. She is the Principal and Director of Indigo Advisory,
an independent advisory consultancy. She also serves on Boards, committees and
advisory groups, including AusBiotech Board, Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory
Committee (PBAC), ANU Industry Advisory Board, and the Strategic Advisory Group
of the Australian Brain Cancer Mission.
Excellence in Clinical Trials Award 2018
The Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc is hosting the inaugural Excellence in Clinical Trials Award. This Award will be presented at the International Clinical Trials Day event to a Registered or Enrolled Nurse who provides an exemplary example of their commitment to delivering exceptional care to their patients.
Some examples of this may include:
- Acknowledgment by their peers and/or patients as an outstanding nurse
- Delivers outstanding patient care
- Has undertaken a project or initive that makes a positive difference to research practices and/or clinical trial awareness in the community
- Demonstrates a commitment to supporting colleagues and has a team-based approach to care
- Actively raises the profile and value of research nursing
- A commemorative trophy and certificate
- A three day ticket (valued at $2080.00) to attend the 2018 ARCS Annual Conference in Sydney, from 21-23 August 2018 (includes one three day ticket only, accommodation and flights are not included). This prize has been generously donated by ARCS Australia.
