Psoriasis is an inherited skin condition, driven by an overactive immune system. It causes skin cells to grow too quickly, resulting in thick, scaly, inflamed (red) areas of skin. Approximately 10% of the general population carry one or more genes that create a tendency to develop psoriasis.
